With our favourite time of the year now just a few short weeks away, we can think of no better time to pay homage to our favourite movie genre, and in particular two of the all-time classic portrayals of the lords of the dark – as well as one of the greatest proponents of such roles.
With the inspiration for this, the final, most explosive chapter of an eight-month long release saga built around French songstress Lucie Sue’s new album, ‘Battlestation‘, is self-evident from its title, the accompanying clip appropriately draws from F.W Murnau’s ‘Nosferatu’ and Tod Browning’s ‘Dracula’.
With both titles now in the public domain, excerpts from these mythical films are blended with Lucie Sue‘s own footage, which is intentionally aged and glitched, with special effects that embrace the kitsch charm of those old-school films. Making the video was also a family affair: Lucie Sue‘s dad plays Bela Lugosi and her brothers handled all the camera work and technical stuff.
The track itself defies traditional songwriting conventions, as it has no verses and no choruses, with the artist herself describing it as a cinematic, feral, bold, and emotionally devastating statement:
