Curated by Monk
As we race headlong towards the end of another Übertastic rockin’ ‘n’ rollin’ year, there definitely has been no slowing down in terms of the quality of new releases which continue to come our way each and every day, all jostling for pole position on our much coveted playlist… so, without further ado, let’s jump right in, turn the speakers up to 11 and crank out the hottest tunes that have made the cut and bothered our eardrums and aural memory cells over the past couple of weeks…
Beddy Rays ‘Stay The Same’ (Self-Released)
These Aussie sk8ter/surf punks kick us in typically ebullient and rambunctious style, as these fun-loving Queensland larrikins tackle the subject of deep personal loss in their usual electrifying and infectious manner:
Chaos Reigns ‘Violent Delights’ (Self-Released)
This is a delightfully violent, or maybe that should be violently delightful slice of energetic, frantic, furious, no-nonsense, raw and uninhibited hardcore, and the third single to be taken from the London band’s just-released new EP:
Dead Pony ‘Everything Burns’ (LAB Records)
Despite the title of their just-released album, it’s been virtually impossible to ignore this Glaswegian quartet,, definitely one of the hottest rising talents on the Scottish alt-rock scene, as they once again prove with this latest incendiary offering:
Dim Gray ‘Peril’ (Grim Day Records)
These Norwegian proggies are known for their cinematic, atmospheric sound that fuses rock, folk, and chamber pop, as evinced on this upbeat first taster of their third album, which will be released at the end of February:
Forty Foot ‘Constellation’ (Self-Released)
These Dublin alt/neo-grungers are definitely shooting for the stars with this, just their second single and a precursor of a larger body of work due to come our way early in the new year:
Gin Lady ‘The Paramount’ (Ripple Music)
There’s a distinctly Seventies feel to quite a few of our selections today, and these Swedish retro rockers set the tone with their blend of American roots rock and subtle prog influences, overtopped by three-part vocal harmonies that evoke the spirit of the greats of the genre:
Healthy Junkies ‘Lion In A Circus’ (Banana Castle Records)
It’s not hard to see why this ever-impressive London gothic glunk alt-rock quartet is an erstwhile favourite here at the Singles Club, a position they have emphasized still further with the release, just this past Friday, of their latest album, on which they invite us to ‘Listen To The Mad’…
Hooton Tennis Club ‘Born, Died’ (Alcopop! Records)
This Wirral quartet return after a four-year hiatus with a slice of fuzzy, psychedelia-tinged indie pop that is both warm and thought-provoking in the artfulness with which it is delivered, evoking one of those weird warm glows both around and inside you:
Jupiter Hollow ‘Incivility’ (Self-Released)
There’s nothing rude or uncivil about this latest statement from these Toronto prog metallers – in fact, it would be downright rude and uncivil of us to ignore this taster of their first new album in six years, and they promise it won’t be as long before they send more tasty treats our way… we’re licking our lips already!
Krooked Tongue ‘Ember Mile’ (Self-Released)
This Bristol trio’s vocalist, Oli Rainsford, describes this, the follow-up to September’s more introspective and maudlin ‘Nothing Ever Grows’ as the band’s “victory song… like the part of a movie where the hero finally knows what they have to do to save the day”, and is the natural successor to its predecessor in that it addresses the triumph of creativity over writer’s block:
LS Dunes ‘Paper Tigers’ (Fantasy Records)
The Frank Iero-fronted supergroup are preparing to release their second album at the end of January – which in turn coincided with a European tour supporting Rise Against – and provide us with a further taste of what to expect, or otherwise, with this sludgy, heavy ballad:
Mad Painter ‘Debt Collector’ (Self-Released)
These guys live and breathe the spirit of 1970s British rock, right down to their brightly coloured shorts, double denim and the use a swelling Hammond organ channelled through a Marshall amplifier – and if that ain’t retro, then nuthin’ else is!
Neverland Ranch Davidians ‘Cactus Cooler Man’ (Heavy Medication Records)
Another of those bands whose name screams at you to find out what they sound like, this LA twin-guitar power trio deliver a very tasty blend of punk which mixes Afro-tinged Tex Mex vibes with old school LA garage proto-rock into one very heady cocktail:
Parker ‘Holy Communion’ (Self-Released)
Hailing from one of the most divided cities in the Überverse – hell, we can’t even agree what to call it – this young emo pop-punk trio address the divisions of the society in which they grew up with a light-hearted and suitably rewarding melodic twist:
Roach Squad ‘Wax & Dust’ (Little Rocket Records)
Another bunch of individual musicians who have been around the block a few times, but bring their inner youth back to full-blown life with a superbly energetic recollection of the energy of late-Eighties sk8tr pop punk.
Skam ‘Selfish Friend’ (Self-Released)
The Midlands hard rock trio return with their first new music since 2021’s ‘Intra’/’Venous’ duotych of EPs, also the first taster of their new album, due for release this coming Friday:
The Mary Tyler Whores ‘Savage World’ (Golden Robot Records)
Possessed of one of our favourite names of any band ever to kick in the doors of the Club, these batshit crazy, onstage food fight-instigating punks rockers once again hit us square between the eyes with this punchy slice of melodic punk, the latest taster from their debut album, due for release next April:
The Young Hearts ‘Hell Or High Water’ (Self-Released)
These south coast rabble rousers have been around the block a few times, and their maturity shows in their combination of Springsteen-meets-Petty-meets-Srummer lucidity, melded into one punchy, anthemic package:
Tusky ‘Ways Of The Worried’ (Self-Released)
These guys are one of the reasons our man Jase is absolutely convinced moving to The Netherlands was one of the best choices he could have made in terms of discovering new music, and it’s not hard to see why this lead single from the Dutch punk combo’s just-released new EP:
Velourias ‘Taxidermist’ (Self-Released)
Our final trip to the ever-effervescent Emerald Isle sees this Dublin alt-rock trio blending post-punk, indie and hardcore vibes in a way that evokes what it might sound like if Joy Division and the Manic Steet Preachers ever sat in on a jam session together:
Zombina And The Skeletones ‘I’m Horrified’ (9×9 Records)
The only thing that horrifies us about this latest single from the Liverpool garage punk sextet’s just-released new album is that it is the last offering we have to share with you this weekend…
Well, that’s it for another fortnight. In the immortal words of Sebastien Bach, “the party’s over so get the fuck out…”, unless of course you fancy hanging around in the bogs until we open the doors again, in which case we’ll keep you fully entertained with our daily picks… Whatever you decide, until next time, remember: keep ‘er lit, keep ‘er between the hedges and keep on Über Rockin’ in the free world \m/
