Curated by Monk
We may be only little more than halfway through the first month of the new rock ‘n’ roll year, but things are already hectic busy here at ÜRHQ, with new releases galore already competing for that coveted inclusion either here on the main #SinglesClub playlist or as one of our #DailyPick selections. So, with that in mind, let’s crank the amps up to neighbour-annoying volume and dive straight into our second full selection of 2025, shall we?
Alien Weaponry ‘Mau Moko’ (Napalm Records)
The New Zealand groove metallers signal their return by once again proudly celebrating their Māori heritage with this track from their upcoming second album, ‘Te Rā’, due for release at the end of March:
AlphaWhores ‘Over And Over’ (Self-Released)
The Panama-based alt-stoner duo kick off the new year by giving the Hot Chip deep cut one of their signature makeovers, ahead of an upcoming European headlining tour, which hits the Black Heart in Camden at the end of March:
Around 7 ‘Anything From You’ (SODEH Records)
The Scottish alt-punk trio will be sharing ‘A Tale Of Martyrs & Heathens’ on their new EP, from which this is a stripped-back pop punk taste of what to expect:
Daedric ‘Forbidden’ (FiXT)
The alt-metal project led by artist Kristyn Hope and producers Clay Schroeder and Geoff Rockwell emphasize their fascination with video games – their name is taken from the ‘Elder Scrolls’ RPG – via this collaboration with soundtrack composer James Wrigley:
Dirty Blonde ‘Polly’ (Self-Released)
I came across this Manchester alt-pop combo during a YouTube search and so know little more about them other than this is a striking little tune and a tasty appetizer for their upcoming EP, which will definitely see them ‘Looking For Trouble’ when it is released at the end of April:
Earl Of Hell ‘The Infernal Dream’ (Self-Released)
In between runs of support dates with the Brant Bjork Trio, Masters Of Reality and Alain Johannes, which will see them criss-cross the length and breadth of the Über Kingdom between now and the end of May, this Scottish rock ‘n’ roll quintet will find time to release their self-titled debut album:
FangSlinger ‘Blood Curse’ (Self-Released)
Halloween may be still ten months away but not a shot to this Sheffield trio, who take us deep into the world of an undead outlaw cursed with eternal life and a debt of 100,000 souls via a mixture of gothic-tinged metal and country blues:
Gin Lady ‘Tingens Sanna Natur’ (Ripple Music)
These Swedish retro rockers do things old school, recording in analogue and blending Americana roots rock vibes with shimmering Seventies classicism to weave a warm and fully organic tapestry of velvety grooves, delicate and finely chiseled riffs and keys, and enchanting vocal melodies, as exemplified in this latest taster of their latest album, which will see them transport us back to that period ‘Before The Dawn Of Time’ on 7 February:
Haunted Mouths ‘Further Til We Disappear’ (Rise Records)
Sleeping With Sirens frontman Kellin Quinn will regale us with ‘A Collection Of Greetings’ when he delivers his debut solo album next month, of which this first sample is a love letter to his wife:
It’s All Red ‘Moment’ (Self-Released)
Another YouTube discovery, as far as I can tell this is the debut offering from this Brazilian post-hardcore mob, and so the only thing they have available at the moment (sic):
Kurt Baker ‘Warm In The Winter’ (Wicked Cool Records)
The king of ÜS power pop reunited with long time collaborator Wyatt Funderburk for this standalone single which didn’t quite make the cut for his last album, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Club’, but now deservedly sees the light of day:
Luna Kills ‘Leech’ (SharpTone Records)
The third single to be lifted from the upcoming debut album by these Finnish alt-metallers, due to be released at the beginning of April:
Marty And The Bad Punch ‘Heart Attack’ (Enghardt Media/Bad Punch Records)
The third single from the guitarist’s upcoming self-titled third album, on which he seeks to revive the sound and spirit of classic Eighties AOR with the help of two veterans of the genre – the once omnipresent Tommy Denander and bassist Tony Franklin – as well as one of the hottest new talents around at the moment, in Dan Byrne:
Moreish Idols ‘Dream Pixel’ (Speedy Wunderground)
With two EPs under their belts, the artful Cornish psychedelic post-punk outfit are set to release their debut album at the beginning of March, at which time they’ll also set out on a 12-date headline tour – well, it is the sort of things bands tend to do, isn’t it?
Pothamus ‘Ykavus’ (Pelagic Records)
It has taken five years for the Belgian psychedelic sludge-metal trio to get around to releasing their second album, but released it will be in just a few short weeks’ time, with this rather meditative offering serving as the latest appetizer:
The Five Hundred ‘New World’ (Prime Collective)
The Midlands mob don’t need a ‘Ghostwriter’ to take us into the literate world of their upcoming third album, a concept work destined to take the listener on “a harrowing sonic journey through a dystopian nightmare, exploring themes of societal collapse, human despair and the fragility of freedom under the crushing weight of oppression” – their words, not ours… You’ll have to wait until next month to hear the full opus, but in the meantime, here is the latest chapter to be published:
The Velveteers ‘Bound In Leather’ (Easy Eye Sound)
Making it a solid hat-trick of appearances here on the Club’s playlist, with three inclusions in as many months, this power trio fronted by the uncompromising and indomitable Demi Demitro and featuring two drummers who play a conjoined kit present us with an ode to transcending one’s own confines on the final taster of their upcoming ‘A Million Knives‘ album:
The Wanton Bishops ‘Gonna Be Fine’ (Self-Released)
This latest offering from Beirut native Nader Mansour combines his lifelong love of the Delta blues with hip hop beats and a poppy atmosphere – as well as an insanely catchy hook – to deliver a biting, sarcastic (and sardonic) pop at the world of internet “healers” and motivators, asking “what does a mantra do for someone living in a war-torn country?”
Waterlines ‘Set The Pace’ (Self-Released)
These northern metalcore “dirtbags”, as they describe themselves, recently proved that they genuinely #DontGiveAFuck with the release of their latest EP, and they look like continuing to #SetThePace over the coming year, with a tour with Rituals in the offing for mid-April.
So, there you have it, our latest dynamic and eclectic selection once again kickstarting the new year in fine fashion. Hopefully we’ve opened your ears to some new sounds, and pointed you in the direction of some fine tuneage to kick your year off in style… Until next time, remember: keep ‘er lit, keep ‘er between the hedges and keep on Über Rockin’ in the free world \m/
