Curated by Monk

The Uber Rock Approved stampWell, it’s Valentines weekend and we could think of no better occasion to share our love and appreciation of the many highly talented, individual and distinct female talents who bring light into the darkest recesses of the otherwise (sadly) male-dominated rock ‘n’ roll Überverse with the second in this special two-part feature which focuses on just a very small part of the massive contribution our femmes fatales make to the music that we all love…

Lacuna Coil ‘I Wish You Were D3ad’ (Century Media)

Over the past three decades, the Milanese quartet have defined and redefined the definitions of extreme gothic symphonic metal, and continue to do so with their just released tenth album:

Laurenne/Louhimo ‘Damned’ (Frontiers Music)

The powerhouse Finnish vocalists Noora Louhimo, of Battle Beast, and Netta Laurenne (Smackbound) have re-united for their second album, which will see them ‘Falling Through Stars’ when it is released in April, and from which this is the first taster:

LA Witch ‘777’ (Suicide Squeeze Records)

The southern Californian psychedelic punk trio explore the more spiritual aspects of love and devotion on this lead single from their upcoming new album, appropriately enough recorded in the city many regard as one of the most romantic in the world, Paris:

Leah Martin-Brown ‘Shush’ (Frontiers Music)

There’s definitely nothing quiet about this Australian songstress, who has the support and backing of no lesser genre legends than Robert John “Mutt” Lange, Tommy Denander and Tony Nilsson for this, her big label debut after earning her crusts for a decade before relocating to first Sweden and then Los Angeles in the bid to bring her music to wider audiences:

LØLØ ‘Possibility’ (Self-Released)

The former child prodigy turned solo pop-punk force majeure is engaged in a battle with herself, struggling between the desire for control in a relationship and the uncertainty of falling for someone new, on this track, released to coincide with that of the new deluxe edition of her album, the wonderfully titled ‘falling for robots and wishing I was one’…

Mamalarky ‘Feels So Wrong’ (Epitaph Records)

The indie rock quartet turn the clock back to the days of the dreamy West Coast vibe with this, their second label release:

Mean Mistreater ‘Walk With Fire’ (Dying Victims Productions)

Having graced these very pages right at the start of the year, the Texan NWoTHMers make a deserved and emphatic return to the Club’s playlist with this latest sample of their upcoming debut album, which impacts at the end of this very week:

Novelists ‘All For Nothing’ (Ackor Music)

The French metalcore proponents have just come off a punishing six-week tour with TesseracT but continue to set themselves an unrelenting pace with this, the second single from their upcoming new album, due for release in the Spring, after which they will hit the European festival circuit harder than a concrete sledgehammer:

Parcs ‘Pull/Push’ (Self-Released)

The south Wales indie/synth-pop quartet continue to develop their self-styled brand of “nu-disco” with the second sample from their upcoming debut EP, which no doubt will give them many ‘Sleepless’ nights between now and its release at the beginning of May:

Samantha Fish ‘Sweet Southern Sounds’ (Rounder Records)

Another of the new generation of female blues guitarists who have been grabbing the genre by the balls – and generally showing that they have more of those than many of their male counterparts – this is the lead cut from what promises to be her fiercest album to date

Scardust ‘RIP’ (Frontiers Music)

The dystopian Israeli progressive symphonic metallers are fronted by Noa Gruman, the founder of the Hellscape choir, known for their collaborated with many well-known artists and bands such as Therion, Amorphis and Alestorm, as well as her own guest appearances with the likes of Amorphis, Ayreon, Therion, Gloryhammer, Nino Helfrich and Orphaned Land.

Slow Crush ‘Cherry’ (Pure Noise Records)

Having taken a year out to re-assess and re-evaluate after almost 24 months of virtually solid touring, the grungy shoegazers have just released their first new music since 2021, describing it as “a new fresh start”:

Spiders ‘Mess With My Emotions’ (Sound Pollution)

The third and final single to be issued from the Swedish NWoCRers’ new album, just released this past Valentine’s Day, much to the delight of retro rock fans the Überverse over, including ourselves (needless to say):

Spiritbox ‘No Loss, No Love’ (Pale Chord/Rise Records)

Another band regarded as one of the true boundary pushers of modern metal, who this week headlined their biggest ever show in front of 10,000 fans at London’s Alexandra Palace, deliver this latest sample of their imminent new album, which will see us engulfed in a ‘Tsunami Sea’ in just few weeks’ time:

The Damn Truth ‘Better This Way’ (Spectra Musique)

No strangers to these pages, the Canadian roots rockers are preparing to grace us with their self-titled fourth album, produced by non other than the legendary Bob Rock – and there are few better ways to deliver the goods than the way this quartet do it:

The Devils ‘Lonely For You Baby’ (Go Down Records/Cleopatra Records)

This dynamic Italian husband-and-wife garage rock duo are preparing to celebrate their tenth anniversary by delivering another album which seeks to prove that the devil truly has all the best tunes, with the raw essence of rock ‘n’ roll pumping through his veins,  combined with a potent brew of sex, sin, and sonic savagery, of which this is the first bluesy, soulful taster:

Tough On Fridays ‘Nosedive’ (Golden Robot Records)

The Texan alt-rock trio delve into the thrill and turmoil of a relationship that’s as intense as it is doomed with their first standalone release of the year, with the promise of plenty more enjoyable noise to come our way in the not too distant future:

Vulvarine ‘Fool’ (Napalm Records)

These Austrian hard rockers draw deep from the well of progenitors such as The Runaways, Girlschool and The Donnas as much as they do more modern day proponents such as Thundermother (with whom they are coincidentally currently on tour) and the above-referenced Battle Beast with their brand of punk-meets-metal “vulvarock”:

Winona Fighter ‘Talk’(Rise Records)

This Nashville pop punk trio have certainly been giving us plenty to talk about in the build up to the release of their debut, released just this past Valentine’s Day and which sees them not offering up any apologies to anyone (never mind the chef) for delivering a cracking collection of eardrum burners, of which this is another guaranteed floor-filling ‘banger:

So, there you have it, our showcase of the finest female voices and talents around at the moment. It certainly has been an epic roadtrip, with one of our most ambitious playlists to date, with some three dozen artists featured over the course of the past 48 hours, demonstrating the sheer breadth of quality product available for your aural delectation, especially when you have detectives such as ÜR’s team of crack ninja reviewers here to track it all down and bring it to you…

We’ll be back again next weekend with another full playlist, but don’t forget to check out our #DailyPick selections each and every day between now and then… so, until we meet again, remember: keep ‘er lit, keep ‘er between the hedges and keep on Über Rockin’ in the free world \m/
