Chosen by Monk

These German skate punks turn the clock back to the heady summers of the 1990s, when Tony Hawks was shaping teenage soundtracks the Überverse over and life seemed a lot less cynical than it is now that we have all grown up (well, physically at least…):

The band describe the single as a punk rock love song about finding a spark of beauty in the middle of a gray, lifeless backdrop.

It’s about finding someone (or something) good when everything else around you just isn’t. It’s about seeing the beauty in the mundane.” The song’s refrain says it all: “You’re the sunny side of shitty town.”

‘Sunny Side’ is our not-so-cheesy love song. Whether you see it as about a relationship, a friendship, or however you choose to interpret it, it’s a reminder that even, when life sucks – sometimes, or even most of the time — it’s worth appreciating the little things. It’s about finding and embracing the sunny side of whatever situation you’re in.

The track is also the title song of Skeetch’s debut full-length album, ‘Sunny Side of Shitty Town‘, dropping on August 22 via those wonderful folks at Punkerton Records.
