Our latest #DailyPick comes from German emo-punk outfit Shoreline, who are offering us a ‘Workaround’ on the latest track to be lifted from their forthcoming third studio album, ‘To Figure Out’.
The track shows a new musical side of the band, throwing together fast emo-riffs over slow drums, danceable disco beats while still maintaining their musical roots close to punk and features Chris Cresswell, who turned into a friend of the band after playing several shows together with both his bands The Flatliners and Hot Water Music.
‘Workaround‘ is about the slow, but definite process of seeing your peers grow older, become parents and settle in a different stage of life. The song is an encouragement to find confidence in your life-choices, understanding that there’s a different approach to happiness for every person.
Deeply rooted in the German DIY hardcore/punk scene, Shoreline gained a reputation as a rousing live band after countless shows in squats, rehearsal rooms and basement clubs all over the European continent, so that they quickly found themselves opening for scene legends like Basement, Silverstein, Spanish Love Songs and Hot Water Music.
New album, To Figure Out continues to reflect on heavy political topics such as the climate crisis and animal rights but also touches very personal topics, difficult friendships and love songs. Seung (singer) started his journey of self-awareness and empowerment as an Asian-German with the previous record, beginning with an angry bite back towards the racism he experienced growing up in Germany.
“There is this stereotype floating around saying the third record is the hardest one for a band, I read that saying a hundred times in interviews or magazines. I think I disagree. This feels like our first record, everything is new, exciting and fresh. To Figure Out is a collection of songs that all have one shared thought/recognition: everything is a process. I love how the topics on the record are so diverse, – there are songs about my journey of reclaiming my cultural heritage as a Korean-German, a lot of political anger and comments on the climate crisis and straight-up love songs.” says Seung
Shoreline are currently touring Europe supporting Spanish Love Songs alongside Heart Attack Man before heading out to the ÜK to support Knuckle Puck, followed by their album release tour of Germany in April:
- ”To Figure Out‘ is released via Pure Noise Records on 23 February.
