Speaking about the song, vocalist Lotta Ruutiainen says:
We all have patterns we struggle to break, and ‘Waves’ is about drowning in the same mistakes, searching for a way out. The song is about believing in someone or something that constantly lets you down; yet being unable to walk away because it feels like giving up on something you’ve worked so hard for.
