Curated by Monk

So, here we are, a third of the way through another action-packed street struttin’ back alley loiterin’ rockin’ ‘n’ rollin’ year and we continue to be bombarded with positive tsunami amounts of quality single releases from every corner of the Überverse and covering every aspect and genre you can imagine (and even some you can’t) of the music we hold and love so dearly. Honestly, it gets harder and harder each and every week to whittle down the sheer volume of submissions we receive to a somewhat manageable playlist, but that is what we have done once again – so, let’s stick the needle in the groove and start spinnin’ our latest selection of the hottest hits to have come our way over the past week…

Blessings ‘Strings Of Red’ (Pelagic Records)

We kick off with the first sample to be offered up from the upcoming third album by the Swedish noise experimentalists:

Cardinal Black ‘Need More Time’ (Thirty Tigers)

The erstwhile ÜR faves don’t really need much more time to continue to wiggle their way into our aural cortexes as that’s just what they’re doing with this latest cut from their upcoming new album, which will see them celebrate ‘Midnight At The Valencia’ next month:

CF98 ‘1993’ (SBÄM Records/Double Helix Records)

The Polish skate punks evoke the heyday of the genre with this latest blast of nostalgic energy on this first glance at their new album, due later in the year:

Crow Black Chicken ‘Bottom Feeders’ (Self-Released)

When it comes to the deep south, you can’t much deeper and more southern on the island of Ireland than the beautiful and febrile city of Cork, from where this blues rock trio continue to follow in the follow in the footsteps of the legendary Rory Gallagher with the imminent release of their fourth album:

Deraps ‘Viva Rock ‘n’ Roll’ (Metalville Records)

The message couldn’t really be much clearer on this, the Van Halen-evoking title track of the duo’s second album, which hits deathdecks everywhere next month:

Dozer ‘Rings Of Saturn’ (Blues Funeral Recordings)

The forefathers of the Swedish stoner movement are marking their 30th anniversary with an upcoming double album compilation of rareties, singles and B-sides, from which this is the first retrospective release:

Gallamesh ‘Conditioned’ (Suburban Records)

The Dutch metalcore protagonists add hip-hip vocals into their music mix with this title track of their just-announced second EP, due for release in June and to be accompanied by back-to-back launch shows in Haarlem and Tilburg:

Gypsy Pistoleros ‘I’m In Love With Myself’ (Earache)

Well, it is the sabbath and there’s nowhere else we’d rather be worshipping than at the altar of some of the most outrageous glam/slam dunk punk ‘n’rollers around, as they invite us to celebrate the beautiful weirdos and glittering outcasts that make our Überverse so insanely (in)gloriously gorgeous:

Kill Your Boyfriend ‘Discretion’ (Sister 9 Recordings)

The Italian post-punk duo explore how the absence of truth can cause the downfall of a power structure that should be devoid of secrets on this sample of their upcoming new EP, due on 9 May:

Krooked Tongue ‘Marigold’ (Self-Released)

The Bristol trio continue the long build-up to the release of their debut album, full details have not yet announced, with this “love letter to what might have been”…

Mother Mother ‘Love To Death’ (Warner Records)

This track has actually been hanging around the band’s back catalogue for more than 15 years, with numerous unofficial versions floating around the interweb, so many that the LA alt-rockers have now decided to issue the finished version to coincide with their upcoming new album:

Pelican ‘Pining For Ever’ (Run For Cover)

The Chicago post-hardcore heavyweights pile on the pressure with this third advance sample of their upcoming new album, their first in six years, due in just over a fortnight’s time:

Red Giant ‘IF I Had Possession Over Judgement Day’ (Radio Silent Records)

The heavy blues trio, who are about to head out on the road with Troy Redfern, totally reinvent the Robert Johnson deep cut, keeping only the words and the 12-bar structure as they deliver their own gothic interpretation of the 1930s tune:

Ritual Effect ‘Withdrawn’ (Self-Released)

The Irish grunge trio explore life in an unsigned band in this latest standalone release:

Sacred Steel ‘Leather, Spikes And Chains’ (ROAR)

The Swabian metallers deliver exactly what you would expect – good old-fashioned, pull-no-punches, don’t-give-a-fuck traditional heaviness – on this latest cut from their just released tenth album:

Spin Class ‘Bagel Bagel Bagel’ (Self-Released)

The desert/grunge-infected Bristol alt-rock combo serve up the appetizer for their upcoming second platter, which will see them inviting us to ‘Dinner At Derek’s’ on a date still to be determined later this year:

The Inspector Cluzo ‘We Win Together I’m Losing Alone’ (F.The Bass Player Records/Virgin UK International)

The Gascony organic farmers adopt the same attitude to the their music as they do to their agriculture, as evinced on this first cutting from their upcoming tenth album, being released in June, with a full tour to follow in October:

The Mucks ‘Need Your Love’ (Flip Flop Records)

The shimmery Coventry indie rockers present a view of young love torn apart at the seams with this latest anthem for the Beta generation:

Walking Bombs ‘Mirror Mosh’ (Self-Released)

The ever-morphing Californian multi-instrumentalist Morgan Y Evans is preparing to bestow #BlessingsBestren with the first in a two-album sequence next month, of which this is the first sample, sharing an experience no doubt many of us have enjoyed in the privacy of our own bedrooms:

So, there you have it, our latest dynamic and eclectic selection. Hopefully we’ve opened your ears to some new sounds, and pointed you in the direction of some fine tuneage to both round off your old rock’ n’ roll month and kick off your new week in style… Until the same time next week, remember: keep ‘er lit, keep ‘er between the hedges and keep on Über Rockin’ in the free world \m/
