Artwork for And All Broke Loose by The Loyal CheatersA little more than two years after declaring that we’re all dead in the long run with their highly impressive debut album, these German/Italian garage punks now prove that they’re not only very much alive and kicking, and making raucous rock ‘n’ roll music to boot, but also very much in it for the long haul as they break loose all sorts of sonic hell on our unsuspecting withered souls with this even more declarative sophomore outing.

Fronted by the highly charismatic, defiantly and raspy Lena McFrison, The Loyal Cheaters (great fucking name, BTW) deliver a high-energy mixture of garage glunk that references The Runaways as much as it does Hellacopters, melding the NYC back-alley groove of The Ramones and nascent Green Day with the modern take of the likes of Nashville Pussy.

The result is a rambunctious, thrill-a-second fairground ride through all the best elements of garage rock: big singalong choruses mixed with punchy riffs and massive melodies combined with enough dirt under their fingernails to grow a crop of potatoes and more grit than a lorry full of stones on its way to the cement factory. Throw in enough attitude to throw down even the biggest WWE wannabe just by glancing at them and you have an album that delivers on every level.

If this is cheating, then I’ll be as loyal as you want me to be. Some may see they’re crazee, but if that’s means they’re crazee good, then I definitely agree. One of my discoveries of the year to date, and an album that will be bothering my earbuds on my daily commute on a regular basis…
