This is basically a one-man project by a guy called CJ Jarvis, who is based in Pennsylvania. And that, dear readers, is basically all we know, apart from the fact that he recently implanted this debut six-track EP in our inbox…
‘Reality Is Bleak’ is very much embedded with and imbued in the metalcore tropes which it both delivers and embodies, although with an element which the genre’s more mature and developed proponents now lack, and that is a sense of genuine angst-fuelled aggression and anger being unleashed in the bedroom/garage studio in which it was most likely produced and recorded (sorry, but with the lack of any further information a degree of assumption is being applied here, which is not intended in any way to denigrate the worthiness of the project or how it was put together).
Jarvis has obviously applied an academic scrutiny to every aspect of the genre and its tropes, and has captured them all with efficiency and no little degree of commitment and compassion, not to mention belief and passion. Whether the reality of his future in his chosen path is bleak remains to be seen, but he certainly has what it takes to shine a light on his journey forward…
