Phil Spalding, one of the most respected and admired session bass players of the past 40 years, has died suddenly at the age of 65.
An ambassador for Fender Precision bass guitars, Spalding started his musical journey with the Bernie Tormé band in 1976. He went on to play with Toyah, Mike Oldfield and, most notably, prog rock supergroup GTR. He also contributed his iconic work ethic to songs and albums by artists as diverse as Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Terence Trent d’Arby, Mel C, Matthew Sweet, Delta Goodrem and Mick Jagger.
