Lothar Antoni, original lead singer with German heavy metal veterans Trance, has died after a long illness.
Antoni founded the band with guitarist Markus Berger, bassist Thomas Klein and drummer Jürgen Baum in 1979, and signed with Rockport Records in 1981. The band went on to record eight albums before dissolving in 1998.
The singer went on to found an alternative version of the band, under the name Trancemission, with which he remained active up until 2020, alongside various solo projects – including a successful career as the writer and producer of “kinderspiel” or rock music aimed specifically at children.
Trance continue to perform and record under their original name, with Berger and Klein still in the band.
