Freddie Salem, former guitarist with southern country rock legends The Outlaws, has died at the age of 70 after a battle with cancer.
Salem replaced original guitarist Henry Paul in the Outlaws in 1977, playing on four albums before leaving the band in 1983.
He went on to join The Godz, with whom he recorded two albums, as well as a session musician and producer.
In the 1990s, he also became a successful club owner and promoter, renowned for championing local bands in his native Ohio.
In a statement on their Facebook page, his former bandmates said that he “will be remembered for his outgoing personality and passion for music“, going on to describe him as “an electric performer and beloved musician“.
