If ever an EP had a better title you’ll struggle to find one more appropriate that of this debut four-tracker from Basingstoke bangmasters Revenant, who add their name to the increasingly long list of bands proving that there is no better time to enjoy good old-fashioned blues-infused classic rock ‘n’ roll, and especially the variety emanating from this here Über Kingdom of R’n’f’n’R \m/
Formed from the ashes of previous NWoCR revivalists The Voodoo Men and Dead Jackals, Revenant live up to their name by proving that they are very much alive and kicking – as is the brand of fiery, vivacious yet emotively soulful southern-tinged rawk fury they release on this beautifully brief introduction.
Drawing heavily on the likes of The Black Crowes and successors such as Blackberry Smoke, Black Stone Cherry and Rival Sons, as well as casting backwards and sideways glances to the Allmans, the Van Zandt beys, alongside Thin Lizzy and even Black Label Society, Revenant deliver a collection of passion-fuelled and delivered songs that gets you enervated and invigorated that energize and provoke your brain as much as they do your feet.
Yet more proof that the great southern rock music is not just the provenance of the Deep South of the USofA but increasingly so that of the Uber Kingdom… All I gotta add is a “hellyeah…”
