I am having a hard time figuring out where to start with this review. Every time I try to start typing I just get lost back into the music. It completely captures your undivided attention, draws you in, and keeps you there. There is going to be a lot of gushing to follow. It is not often I find an album that stands out so well from the very first notes of the first track as being a future favoruite. This is one of those albums for me. Instantly epic.
The musical style starts off with a very clear 80s flare but very quickly expands into much more. There is a constant evolution to the style that keeps every moment interesting. Most of the time the tone for the album stays pretty heavy but they know when to slow it down to keep the variety interesting. Sometimes to an extreme contrast but in a way that feels absolutely intentional, and they make it work so well.
Things continue to impress when you get into the vocals. They have this wonderful metalcore scream you would expect with the genre, but the clean vocals are what really stand out to me as they are able to totally change the emotional impact into a less aggressive state while not losing any of the power in delivery. Beyond that, though they know exactly where to transition from one to the other to keep the track interesting. The back and forth I don’t think could have been executed any better.
From the beginning, you can hear the passion poured into this album. It sounds like the band poured everything they had into every note to craft an experience that really captures what they really can do as artists. As a listener, this makes for a fun, compelling, experience from start to finish.
I’m sure by this point I don’t need to say this again but I loved every second of this album. This is a must-have experience for anyone who even remotely likes the genre. I also think that with the retro electronic and the ’80s influences mixed in, it would be a great album to introduce someone to the genre. I think this one will create a lot of new fans. You owe it to yourself to check this one out. It is a must-have addition to your collection. It is one you will keep going back to as one of the greats. I know I will.
