Artwork for Quitter by Giovannie And The Hired GunsGiovannie And The Hired Guns have once again proven their musical prowess with their latest album, ‘Quitter’. This Texas band has a knack for blending rock, country and Tejano influences into a distinct sound that sets them apart in the contemporary music scene. ‘Quitter’ is a compelling testament to their evolving artistry, featuring a collection of tracks that are both raw and polished, filled with emotion and energy.

The album’s opening shot, ‘Cheap Tequila’, is a rousing anthem that encapsulates the band’s spirit. Giovannie’s gritty vocals paired with powerful guitar riffs create an unforgettable introduction. Throughout the album, the band’s lyrical storytelling shines, capturing themes of love, heartbreak, resilience, and rebellion with a refreshing authenticity.

‘Talk Dirty’ reminds me stylistically of Skindred, and I’m pretty sure it may raise a few eyebrows with its lyrical content. Another highlight is ‘Chiquita’, which infuses traditional Tejano rhythms with modern rock elements, creating a vibrant and dance-worthy tune.

‘Pineapple Sunshine’ lilts along with a mix of reggae and Tejano rhythms and is a real toe tapper.  Another standout track is ‘Good day’, a ballad that showcases the band’s softer side without losing their edge. The melodic hooks and heartfelt lyrics make it an instant favourite. It is in these softer less edgy tracks such as ‘Good Day’ and ‘Over And Over’ and the country sounding ‘You’ that the band may build a more international fanbase.

‘Quitter’ also features the band’s signature high-energy performances, particularly evident in tracks like ‘Land Of The Lost’ and ‘Chiquita’. These songs are tailor-made for live shows, promising to be crowd-pleasers with their infectious choruses and dynamic instrumentation.

In conclusion, ‘Quitter’ is a brilliant addition to Giovannie and the Hired Guns’ discography. It is reminiscent of the early pop punk style of Green Day in parts but has other musical influences from reggae to Mexicana and even The Cadillac Three in ‘You’. It captures the essence of the band’s unique sound while pushing their musical boundaries. Fans of the band and newcomers alike will find much to appreciate in this energetic and emotionally resonant album.
