South Of Heaven – Maastricht, Gashouder – 8 June 2025
Rain and festivals seem to go fist in glove. but that did nothing to dampen Jase W’s enthusiasm as he avoided hordes of runners for the musical marathon that was the second day of the Netherlands’ newest weekender…

So, following the rather late finish the previous day, Jase W ended up sleeping in way too late and arrived at Holland’s newest festival at 3pm just in time to catch a bit of Sacred Reich. Screaming ‘Truth, Justice, and the American way’ before smashing into some good old-fashioned thrash was definitely the right way to get things kicked off for our man with the hangover!

Festival season is here! It’s finally here to dominate Jase W’s summer plans and first to kick things off for our man with all the plans is a brand new festival in the form of South Of Heaven in the beautiful city of Maastricht. Thanks to some quick thinking he was able to side step the nationwide train strikes and got a Flixbus down to Maastricht from Amsterdam and was eagerly waiting for the floodgates to open with a pint in hand…

One of the most enduring and successful bands to emerge from Switzerland, The Young Gods celebrate their 40th anniversary this year with the release of their 14th studio album ‘Appear Disappear’. With their trademark fusion of raw, urgent industrial rock and powerful electronics, and with the album tackling the world’s current woes, it sees The Young Gods very much in fine form.

It probably doesn’t help his case when friends say he listens to potentially made-up bands when he gives them names like Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. Ultimately, they’re the ones missing out on outrageously good shows like the one Jase W had the pleasure of witnessing last year at Paradiso – so there’s no chance he would let himself miss out on them when they popped up again at Utrecht’s Tivoli.

As they enter their sixth decade laying down the law, heavy metal style, it is a task of Mission Impossible proportions to write something new about one of the bands who have been the true cornerstones of the genre for longer than many fans have been alive, other than to say that if any proof were needed that they remain one of the most indomitable and dominant forces around then no further evidence need be presented than this imperious recording of their show-stealing performance at last year’s Hellfest shebang.

Gary Moore was one of those unique musical forces of nature. An untrained musician, a guitarist who played from the heart and with the internal instinct to be able to make his instrument cry and talk, sing and weep with every ounce of the passion he put into crafting what were basically a few pieces of electronics, metal and wood into something that spoke to the human heart and soul on the both the most basic and cerebral of levels.

Often referred to as the founding fathers of Celtic rock, Horslips are one of the truly great Irish rock acts of the 1970s. Their fusion of traditional Irish music with progressive rock and hard rock made them one of the most successful bands in their homeland during the ‘70s and gained widespread acclaim overseas too. Forming in 1970 and splitting in 1980, they returned to action again in 2004 for the best part of a further decade. During both stints, Horslips made numerous recordings for the BBC both on radio and TV, and it’s those recordings that are gathered together here in this new extensive five-disc CD/DVD box set.

Formed from the ashes of 1980s ÜK hardcore stalwarts HDQ, Diaz Brothers may not be a full-time band, but when they do get together they mean business, as is clearly evident on new album ‘The World Is Yours’, the follow up to their acclaimed 2020 self-titled debut.
