VIDEO OF THE WEEK – DROPKICK MURPHYS

As usual, we received almost 100 submissions vying for the coveted industry title of our ‘Video Of The Week’. And it takes a lot for the winners to fight their way to the top. We do apply a number of criteria, of course: these include no straight-to-camera performance pieces, while lyric videos also tend to be be relegated to the bottom of the heap. Not that this is to dismiss the worthiness of the songs or the format in which they are presented, as all unsuccessful submissions are added to the longlist for our hugely popular Singles Club feature… Having said that, who proved to be the creme de la creme and grabbed the honours this week?

Delain – ‘Apocalypse & Chill’ (Napalm Records)

Delain have always been a favourite of Jase Walker since seeing them at Sonisphere quite a number of years back while they were on their ‘April Rain’ album tour cycle way back in 2010, and it was a fantastic performance too. He’s always had a soft spot for symphonic metal combining often crushing riffs with often orchestral backing and soaring operatic vocals and Delain’s performance back then was no different.

The Wildhearts/Backyard Babies/CKY – Belfast, Limelight 1 – 29 January 2020

When this co-headlining billing was first announced, the Über Kingdom of Rock ‘n’ Roll nearly sank into the amount of saliva generated, with major flood warnings sounded in the cities which this titanic tour would be visiting. It certainly was a dream ticket, and it was no wonder they were flying out the door within days of the shows being put on sale.
