The Über Rock Singles Club – Awesome August (Volume Two)

Well, with a few exceptions, the pathway out of the dark tunnel that has been the past 16 months finally seems to be getting clearer day by day, as we slowly take those vital steps back to at least a semblance of the normality we enjoyed before the pandemic wrecked chaos on our collective and individual lives. Yes, there are still some restrictions in place in some parts of the Über Kingdom, but the signs are increasingly positive, not least in terms of the summer festival season being up-and-running again, and the light on the horizon is growing ever brighter – and it’s not just ‘cos we’re being blessed with a rare (occasionally) sunny summer!

Ophelia’s Eye – ‘Fight for Us’ EP (Self-Released)

We seem to be experiencing a little influx of debut EPs from bands here at ÜRHQ at the moment, which is perfect for Jonny B. It’s now 31 years since the Quireboys released their debut album ‘A Bit of What You Fancy’ in January 1990 to much acclaim and success in equal measure. To mark the 30th anniversary of that iconic album, rather than going down the ‘remastered and expanded’ route than many bands do, they’ve decided to re-record the whole thing with the current line-up, which still features Spike and Guy Griffin of course, and with the band’s current ‘gypsy rock ’n’ roll sound injected.

Golden Ashes – ‘A Lightless Christ Shuns the Crown of Divinity’ (Improved Sequence)

Prolific multi-instrumentalist Maurice De Jong, primarily of Gnaw Their Tongues, has come out with a new album for side project Golden Ashes. ‘A Lightless Christ Shuns the Crown of Divinity’ features eight tracks picking up on the vein of the previous releases under the Golden Ashes name. Mixing an intense foundation of raw black metal laced with orchestral style synth layers. Conceptually, it seeks to build upon the Christian myths and texts elements of previous albums.
