VIDEO OF THE WEEK – LEXI LAYNE

As the rays of light at the end of the dark tunnel that has been the past 18 months of isolation and generally being shit upon from great heights grow brighter by the day, and life starts to return to some sense of normality, a healthy slew of new music, perhaps more than at any other time in ÜR’s history, continues to ping itself our way, and especially in the continuing tsunami of submissions we receive for our coveted ‘Video Of The Week’ award… Yes, as we’ve said on multiple occasions, one constant throughout the vagaries of inconsistent and often hard to stomach lockdowns is the amazing level of adaptive creativity that bands and video directors the length and breadth of the Überverse have continued to show, often in the most adverse of circumstances.

Bloodstock – Catton Hall, Derbyshire – 13 August 2021

Rich H should probably preface the Friday line-up by mentioning he and his party already a bottle of whiskey in them by the time Divine Chaos finished their main stage set. But then, when you can gorge on a buffet of technical riffs and snarls, how else can you start the third day of a festival off? Bloodstock – Catton Hall, Derbyshire – 12 August 2021

Wednesday night still rings in our team’s ears as they arrived back on-site for Thursday and the first multi-stage day of music for Bloodstock 2021. Bloodstock – Catton Hall, Derbyshire – 11 August 2021

As live music makes a staggered return, the question starts to take place on exactly how it will all come together, particularly in regard to differing COVID policies [even just within the ÜK] and the requirement for musicians, crews etc. to self-isolate and avoid any exposure to the virus. Bloodstock knows this all too keenly, having worked a transparent policy since last summer that has seen the festival announce a steady raft of replacements for acts who couldn’t make the fest for one reason or another, ultimately leading to a largely ÜK-based line-up.

Vandenberg – ‘The Complete ATCO Recordings (1982-2004)’ (Cherry Red)

The name Adrian Vandenberg will be best known to most rock fans as one of the myriad guitarists to have graced the ranks of Whitesnake: in his case, it was at what could be argued to be the most commercially successful, and certainly, most MTV-friendly, stage of their career, the late Eighties. He got the Coverdale sidekick gig, of course, not only because he was a highly talented (if, in many eyes, overshadowed and ergo under-rated) guitarist, but also because he had proven himself to be able to gain commercial success on his own right, through the band which bore his name and released the three albums now unearthed and re-issued in this neat little package… Yes, we know it’s a four-disc set, but the last one is one of those de rigeur compilations of demos, live tracks and other (alleged) rarities) that really only appeal to the most purist of fans.
