One of Yorkshire’s top venues, Sheffield’s O2 Academy, has been forced to close its doors in order to undertake urgent structural repairs.
The building is the latest to be hit by concerns around the RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) in potentially hundreds of public buildings. These concerns have already forced the closure of almost 180 schools across England and Wales.
Although the venue’s website continues to advertise gigs and club nights for the month of October, an immediate effect has been the cancellation of this weekend’s HRH Goth vs Punk.
At the moment, it is not clear if any other venues within the Academy group, most of which are situated within university complexes, are affected. As ever, ÜRHQ will keep everyone updated with developments and announcements as and when we get them.
