Artwork for Through Endless Darkness by SolemnityWell, I have to say this is a great way for a band to make their entrance onto a scene. Landing with five tracks that demand your attention. When doing my research I did find a band with the same name that split up in 2018. I am pretty sure they are not the same, but just know that when looking for the band there will be mixed results that can be confusing. That being said though, once you sift through you are rewarded with a great EP that takes on a more subtle tone than other artists in the genre there is a lot here for so few tracks so let’s just get right into it.

The vocal style is pretty straight forward. We have a nicely executed heavy growled tone that while not revolutionary for the genre is very well delivered and stands out as being a particularly good example of what is to be expected in a death metal vocal. I have nothing negative to say here except that with the melodic style of the music I would have liked to hear a little more range. Perhaps when the music slows down maybe a little cleaner of a vocal to contrast the heavier vocal we have? I don’t want to cheapen the stellar performance that was delivered but I do feel that there could be a little more in the range here.

On the other hand, musically there is no lack of range. We have beautiful soft melodic segments with the sound of a piano and soft strings that really captures your emotions followed by electric guitar and drums both in heavy segments that you would expect with death metal and well as a softer tone bridging the gaps between the heavy and soft. It is expertly done and sounds very intentional in the best way. However, while these transitions are very well thought out between parts of the track the transitions between tracks can be a little abrupt at times. Somewhat a nitpick I know but it is worth mentioning.

When all is said and done this is a great EP that has only very minor things like I pointed out above. I absolutely recommend this EP and I also look forward to hearing what the band does in the future. With the addition of a little more range to the vocals, I think Solemnity could become a landmark in the melodic death genre. I don’t think you will regret starting here and following along for the ride.
