I would swear this album came out of the late ‘70s. It is absolutely a modern classic that would fit right in back then. It is a perfect blend of rock ‘n roll and old school punk. While each track can get a little more repetitive than I would normally like, it really fits with that classic style and is completely unoffensive. I could easily see many of these tracks being in movies especially in a scene where everyone is coming together to get something done. In my mind, I’m picturing a montosh of students passing out flyers or something. The specifics of the scene in my head are not important. The point is at some point we have all seen a scene like that in a movie or TV show and that kind of get hyped and get it done kind of attitude is well captured here.
Driving that attitude is a similarly hard-driven town really capitalizing on that old school guitar and bass distortion that you would have to be crazy not to love. Especially with the heavy use of short solos scattered through each track. All this complemented by the perfect amount of drums. The track ‘Black Magic Killer’ really shows off the drums and bass in my opinion. There is just a wonderful complement of talents between each member of the band.
Tying all the above together is wonderful vocals. We have a nice powerful vocal with a nice slight rasp that really gives the band a signature tone. Sure, lots of bands have that slight rasp style but because it is a tone that is really hard to duplicate exactly it makes the band stand out on their own simply by the uniqueness of the voice. Combine that with the passionate delivery and attitude poured into the track it all comes together for a good experience.
All in all, you will not be disappointed with this album. The whole album stays at a pretty high energy with excellent production value. Anyone who is a fan of good old rock ‘n roll, you need to check out this album. Also, if you are a punk fan, I think you would also be missing out if you don’t give this one a try. While I would say this album stays closer to the rock ‘n roll side of the spectrum most of the time there is a lot of punk influence here too. I loved every bit of this album and I think you will too.
