Artwork for Morbid Cult by HellsodomyOK, this is something I can get behind. This is an album that delivers on exactly what you want and expect. Dark and aggressive this is the type of black metal that the local priest warned you would drag you to hell as a kid. Had you listened to him back then you would miss out on this epic album now. Sure it probably was not a priest in everyone’s life but the point is I think most of us knew someone that was freaked out by our taste in music and I imagine this is the kind of thing that most of those people had in mind. It will terrify the weak and that is great!

The vocals are brutal! Absolutely dripping with passion, and probably a little blood, they really drive home the emotion of every track. They are relentless and demand your attention from start to finish. Compound that with the dark lyrics, it is hard to dislike anything about the vocals. Especially with the way his voice breaks up it give this aggressive fry to the tone that is just perfect. This is further complemented by the tone of the music.

The guitar has an equally brutal tone to it. It is heavy but not muddy. The mid-range is dialed in just right to ensure that the tone does not get lost in the mix but rather it cuts through nicely. Speaking of cutting through the mix, the drums stand out wonderfully here. I will admit I’m not a drummer and therefore my knowledge is limited to what technically makes them sound so different, however I can tell when they stand out as being something exceptional and here they really do. There is such a range there that I don’t notice in other similar albums. In a few tracks he does this really cool repeated change in the pace that sounds like a big stroker V8 idling and it hits you in the chest the same way. It is really cool.

I think this one is a must buy. There really is not anything I have to say bad about it. Not only will you not be disappointed, but I think this has the potential to be one of many people’s favorites. ‘Morbid Cult’ will fit into many playlists and even stands out enough that it can even be the anchor that you build the playlist around. It is a great album that you owe it to yourself to give it a shot.
