The Finnish death-dealing doomsters are preparing to take us into the world of #TheBereaved with the release of their fifth album in January, from which this is the second sampler:

Vocalist Jaakko Mäntymaa reflects on the song’s lyrical theme:

I have always had an issue with how we tend to remember those passed. You know, concentrating excessively on the good sides of a person and downplaying imperfections, the whole ‘don’t speak ill of the dead’ thing. What could honor a person more than seeing and remembering him as a whole, flaws and all? This song celebrates memories that stick to what really happened.

Guitarist Nico Mänttäri adds:

Even though usually our music is more about slowly building atmospheres and long and lingering songs, on occasion it is nice to venture a bit more to the point rock ’n’ roll type of stuff. This piece ended up being one of those experiments. We had had talks with our dear friend Okko (Solanterä) about doing a feature on this album, and once he ripped his vocal delivery on the chorus of the song, all just fell into place. Really looking forward to playing this one live.

  • The Bereaved‘ will be released on 16 January via Noble Demon Records.
