Artwork for Pink Elephant by Stand AtlanticStand Atlantic are a name that you will surely recognize by now as they’ve been steadily climbing through the ranks of pop punk and rock for the last few years. The Australian pop-punkers definitely know what to do in order to capture your attention within the first few seconds of the album.

We start off with Like That which feels like a very old school kind of pop punk vibe which sets the tone for the album overall and brings back memories from their previous albums, and just generally builds up the hype for what you’re going to hear. Shh! is a short and sharp burst of energy which packs a punch as you’re listening. It’s straight to the point, is full of energy and is up there for one of the best song the band have put out altogether.

‘Blurry’ starts off with a solid beat and continues through the chorus, and honestly the different kinds of notes within this song is what really got to me and made this one of my personal favourites on the album. It’s here you can see that while Pink Elephant as a whole doesn’t stray too far from the pop-punk roots we know the band to play, but they’re open to a whole lot more experimentation with their sound, and I can really appreciate being kept on my toes while listening to it and not quite knowing what the next song is going to be like.

That unexpected feel continues with ‘Jurassic Park’, which continues with those fun notes and fun, slightly unexpected, lyrics (who doesn’t love dancing with ghosts in your garden, am I right?). ‘Eviligo’ is a hard hitting track with catchy lyrics like “what a pretty little mess we’ve made”, which is just full of energy and up to this point on the album you can see how far the band have come with their sound and how much passion they’re putting into their music. Wavelength comes into the category within this album of new and experimental sounds which just catch your attention and bring you more into the song.

‘Drink To Drown’ is a slower song for the album, but still with just as hard hitting lyrics and music. It is a standalone ballad of the album and definitely showcases how the band are not afraid of wearing their hearts on their sleeves and will show themselves in harder times as well as they’re good times. The song being set against a piano which brings everything together really well.

Coming off the gentle ballad, we move into the upbeat melodies of ‘DWYW’. The contrast going into this song from the one before brings back happier elements, and the want to dance and move along. Keeping the life in the album going ‘Silk & Satin’ continue’ experimenting and combining elements of electro-pop within it. The song is another one which has a slightly slower tempo to it, and it keeps the fun balance in the album. ‘Soap’ is a fun rock song which just has happy vibes to it when you listen to it. It’s one of those songs that you just want to dance along to.

‘Hate Me (Sometimes)’ is the final track that just sums up all the previous songs and just seems to bring them all together in one big finale. To me it almost feels like it has elements of all the different songs brought together – and is just a really fun song.

The album, as a whole, I think is brilliant and is definitely up there for one of my albums of the year with its sound. It’s full of big choruses, fun lyrics, fast beats and full of passion. You can tell how much work and thought went into the album in order to make it what we’re listening to just now and how fun and interesting it is. The band have really outdone themselves and have upped their game. They’re making themselves known and are definitely a band to continue to watch.

The album is out now, so go and find it and get listening!
