This debut full-length from Poland’s Nameless Creations, released via their own label, inhabits the dark dungeons of gothic noir deathrock, painting a landscape inhabited by drugged-up prostitutes and on-the-run serial killers and delivering a soundtrack that the likes of Eli Roth, Robert Rodriguez or Guillermo del Toro could gleefully visualize in the most nightmarish terms.
Driven by dense rhythms overtopped by sparse riffs and jangling solos, the standout performance is that of Dorian Wiseblood, whose rich, mostly spoken, vocals bring the dark lyricism of the words to blackened life. The dark poetry of his delivery perfectly matches the avant garde soundscape being painted behind him, as layers of atmospherics are built, withdrawn and then repeated to tumultuous effect. This is a surrealistic craftsman at work, and it is an equally surreal experience to be part of same.
Imagine Iggy Pop or Tom Waits fronting The Birthday Present and you’ll get pretty close to effect generated.
