Artwork for Breaking The Silence by Into The UnknownThere are some really good bones here and I really wanted to like this album – but, overall, I was bored. That is not to say that there are not some good tracks here. In fact, there are some tracks that I think are definitely worth your time but overall most of the tracks were very repetitive and I found it hard to stay focused on what I was listening to. Many of the songs were repetitive enough that halfway through I realized that I had heard all the song was going to offer.

Before it sounds like I am just hating on the band I want to go over what I did like. There were a couple of tracks that were more of power ballads that were truly great. Into the Unknown really have something here and I really want more of it. Track five, ‘Back in Time’ was great. It was beautiful and passionate. I listened to it multiple times and if the band did more like this, I would absolutely be a fan. I also rather liked track eight, ‘I’ve Had Enough’: it was fun but not enough to carry the album. Track nine, ‘Broken’, is another surprisingly good ballad with faster rock segments that they interestingly merged with the ballad. I liked it. Unfortunately, these are the only songs that I really liked enough to recommend.

The problem is not musically or with the singer. Like I said before there are good bones here. The guitarist can play well, the bass is good, the drums are good, and the singer actually has a cool vocal style and an accent that I think complements that style well. So where is the problem? First, the mix is all over the place. Depending on the song different instruments will be overpowered. Sometimes more than one. This really hurts the overall song when it sounds like members of the band are struggling to be heard. The second issue I would say is the writing. Many of the songs are repetitive and don’t evolve.

I usually try to end a review with who would like it as there usually is someone for most things. Unfortunately, I’m not really sure who this is for. I would say to give this one a listen on Spotify or whatever streaming service it ends up on after release. Especially the songs I called out above. See what you think. But as it stands right now, I think I would give this album a miss. At best I would just pick up some specific songs but not the whole thing.
