Artwork for Indigo Red by Fabienne DelsolYou may be more familiar with Fabienne Delsol than you think. ‘I’m Gonna Haunt You’, a track from her 2004 debut album ‘No Time for Sorrows’ soundtracked a pivotal scene in the second series of the hit BBC black-thriller ‘Killing Eve’, which was a very suitable fit.

With a love for fuzz guitars, psychedelia, French pop and exotic soundtracks, Fabienne Delsol imbues a coolness of ‘60s styling and has now arrived with album number five in the shape of ‘Indigo Red’.

The album mixes new original songs with covers of songs by Silver Apples, The Count Five, Sharon Tandy and Francoise Hardy. The psychedelic pop vibe is certainly prevalent on tracks like ‘I Heard About a Friend’, ‘If All Things Were Never Said’, ‘I’m Leaving You’ and album opener ‘She Is Gone’, which makes great use of backwards guitar effects in true psych style.

The organ-led ‘Black Sheep’ has a darker vibe, as does the subtle ‘I Have Known Love’, ‘The Morning After’ has a quirky quality, and ‘Daughter Of The Sun’ heads in a heavier garage rock/psych direction. Both ‘Peacekeeper’ and ‘Le Premier Bonheur du Jour’ close the album off very nicely with a subtle, gentle and dreamy vibe.

With top notch instrumentation and of course Fabienne Delsol’s beautiful and striking voice, ‘Indigo Red’ is an authentic and thrilling trip into a world of 60’s-inspired psychedelia, and a most worthy soundtrack to the summer.

  • Indigo Red’ is released today (Friday 10 July).
