Artwork for Land Of Fog 20/20 ReVision by EwigkeitThe first I had heard of Ewigkeit was when they were re-releasing their album ‘Starscape’ in 2019. I was glad to have been introduced to them at that point. It was a wonderful album from a band with a very unique sound. Needless to say, I was quite excited to see another reproduced album from them. Last time everything that had been learned in the 20 years from the original recording and the new recording standards for the modern-day made for a definitive release that when compared side by side with the original it kept everything that made the original special but simply refined it. Have they managed to do this again?

There is no reason to keep you in suspense in this one. Of course, they managed to do it again. This release has the exact same level of love and care put into the recreation as we have seen before. You can tell that this is someone’s life’s work and they are damned proud of it and are finally able to give it that final polish that it deserves.

The musical style spans across a wide range. There are elements of ambient, melodic, and psychedelia all grounded in roots of black metal. We have a dark and angry guitar tone complemented by the occasional clean tone as well as keyboards and piano. This makes for an ever-evolving style to every song making them each feel like their own self-contained epic. Never did I find myself thinking a track became too repetitive or did I feel the need to skip forward. Instead, every track was an experience in and of itself that was worth savouring.

The wonderful musical style was also wonderfully complemented by the vocals. Here we have the same wide contrasts that make for a wonderfully evolving experience. We have the same compressed electronic tone that we have heard before from the band contrasted by a heavy distorted growling tone and a sickly sweet clean tone that is both reassuring while still sending shivers down my spine as it should. It is wonderfully done as I have come to expect from Ewigkeit.

While I do think I prefer the darker tone of ‘Starscape’, the slightly softer style found here is a wonderful experience. This is a carefully crafted passion project for the band and it shows. I also believe that fans of the original album will find this a worthy upgrade in production value. This is one that I wholeheartedly recommend you pick up for yourself. Both fans of the original and newcomers will find something quite special on this album.
