Artwork for Imperfectly Perfect by Chip Z'Nuff‘Perfectly Imperfect’ is the latest solo release from the multi-talented American musician Chip Z’Nuff. Best known as the co-founder of the Chicago area ‘80s glam rock band Enuff Z’Nuff, Chip has released over 20 albums with the band including their eponymous 1989 self-titled debut record and hit singles ‘Fly High Michelle’ and ‘New Thing.’  He is not only an amazing singer and bassist but an incredibly talented songwriter, producer, and most recently radio personality with his show The Monsters of Rock playing to audiences of over 800,000 listeners on the Dash Radio Network.

For the latest solo album, Chip has enlisted a host of talent to accompany him on his musical journey including Joel Hoekstra (Whitesnake, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) on lead guitar, Enuff Z’Nuff band mate Daniel Hill on drums, percussion, and orchestration, and both Steven Adler (former Guns ‘N Roses, Adler’s Appetite) and Daxx Nielsen (Cheap Trick) on acoustic drums. Chip handles the vocal duties as well as bass, guitar, and melotron.

The record begins with a brief instrumental, ‘The Church,’ which sets the tone for the rest of the album. Next is the laidback feel and dreamy vibe of ‘Welcome to the Party.’ In fact, the whole album has a very illusory feel and it’s easy to see that Chip wears his heart on his sleeve as his love for The Beatles shines through the entire album.

You won’t want to miss the rocking midsection of ‘Ordinary Man’ or the ultra-cool aura of ‘Roll On.’ Hoekstra’s guitar work is outstanding throughout but make no mistake about it, this is Chip’s baby and a perfect example of that is the phenomenal chorus and gorgeous vocals on ‘I Still Hail You.’ The majority of the songs on the record were written by Chip. ‘Heaven in a Bottle’ is an exception as it’s an older tune that was co-written with former band mate Donnie Vie.

It’s classic Enuff Z’Nuff and that it really doesn’t get much better than that.  ‘3 way’ is the definitive party song that will have your feet tapping and head bopping while the bluesy groove will have you feeling introspective on ‘Heroin.’ The album finishes with Chip’s take on the Mott the Hoople classic ‘Honaloochie Boogie’ which feels perfectly at home on this album.

‘Perfectly Imperfect’ is a unique standout. There’s simply nothing like it out there. Longtime fans of Enuff Z’Nuff will love it as will fans of The Beatles.  For everyone else, give it a chance and go “get high on a new thing”.
