Babylon AD’s return to ÜK stages has been a long time coming. This was always going to be something special, but their appearance at The Patriot, Home of Rock in Crumlin showed just how tight and fiery they still are as a live act. With Californian swagger and songs drawn from across their career including the new album, the band proved why they remain a cult favourite among hard rock diehards.
Support came from Scottish outfit Bad Actress, bringing a youthful rock ’n’ roll energy that set the tone perfectly for the night. Hailing from Inverness, their blend of sleazy riffs, infectious choruses and high-octane stage presence got the early crowd shouting along and nodding in approval. They came across hungry and sharp, with tracks that could easily sit on MTV’s ‘Headbangers Ball’ playlist of old, and by the time they closed, they left the room buzzing for the main event.
Their energy and enthusiasm for playing live after almost two weeks on tour with Babylon AD had obviously been increased despite this being their last night of the tour. Drummer converted to lead vocals, Lui McFarlane provided the swagger and energy to support brother Chick McFarlane on lead guitar. With Euan Campbell now on drums and Tommy Bell on bass they rattled through an hour of catchy songs and great riffs and are sure to go on to better things.
Babylon AD stormed the stage with veteran confidence. Playing with the grit and polish that comes from decades on the road, they tore through favourites that delighted long-time fans while still introducing newer followers to their signature mix of melody and muscle. The Patriot crowd lapped it up, singing along and raising fists in an atmosphere that felt more like a celebration than a gig.
Vocalist Derek Davis was in strong voice from his entry onto the stage for ‘Back In Babylon’. His soaring delivery cutting through the crunch of guitars, while the rhythm section gave each track extra weight in The Patriot’s tight setting. Rattling through onto ‘Wrecking Machine’ they almost did this to the venue with their power. Crowd favourite ‘Hammer Swings Down’ delivered a powerful opening to the 90+minute set. The band barely drew breath (only to comment on the “sippy cups” they had for their on stage drinks – a commonly repeated theme!)

Once again the technical team of The Patriot deserve a mention as at one point Dylan Soto (an absolute beast on drums) broke the kick drum skin (apparently not the first time on this tour!) which was rapidly replaced by the home team.
For a Sunday night, the vibe was electric — a packed room, fans hanging on every note, and a sense that this was a rare, memorable stop for a band that doesn’t hit these shores often enough. With Bad Actress impressing as future contenders and Babylon AD proving their legacy is intact, it was another triumph for The Patriot’s “Home of Rock” reputation.
