Artwork for Anos En Infierno by XibalbaOK this album is brutal in a great way. It wastes no time and just starts out right in your face with heavy aggressive tones. This is not for the faint of heart or even some fans of death metal might find this a bit heavier and darker than they are used to. Until the second to last track, where there is a very sudden shift in the tone. By now you should know I love surprises like that, and this is a good one. Sure, there were times when I thought things were getting a little too similar but all in all a great album that kept my interest. Especially at the end.

Most of the musical style is very death metal but slowed down a bit and tuned way down into the heavy bass range. It makes for a nice flare of doom or somewhat black metal in the style that would otherwise be a little one dimensional. Instead it adds some nice depth to sift through keeping things interesting. For most of the album they keep this heavy style, but in the last two tracks they open up to some soft played melodic parts that I really loved. I hope that these last two tracks are more of what we see in the future because while the whole album was good these two tracks were outstanding. There was such an evolution to the sound. It left me with a lot to unpack and wanting more.

The vocal style was a perfect match for the music. It is a much deeper and heavier growls than is the standard in death metal, once again feeling a bit doom metal inspired, it is a perfect complement to the musical compilation. This tone is rarely broken from but when it is that is also well done showing that the band has a decent range. I love to hear a band reach out of there standard comfort zone. Especially when done well. These guys nail it, especially later on.

While there were times, especially in the early tracks, where I thought things were getting a bit repetitive and might be losing my interest but, overall, I really enjoyed the album, especially toward the end. The tracks at the end are outstanding. I really hope to hear more tracks with that melodic flair to them in the future from these guys. This album is definitely worth your time. I don’t think you will regret picking it up.
