So, here we are, poundin’ ‘n’ pummellin’, stompin’ ‘n’ strollin’ our way into the second half of the first month of what is already proving to be another busy rockin’ ‘n’ rollin’ year here in the Überverse… We’ve the death decks fully cranked up, and the amps set so loud that the neighbours are gonna enjoy some of the finest sounds around (whether they want to not!) – just as are you, our loyal readers… so, grab a chilled beer or three and settle into your favourite armchair and enjoy our latest selection of the hottest aural delights to have come our way over the past seven days:
Abrams ‘Glass House’ (Blues Funeral Recordings)
Our first selection is the lead track from this Denver post-hardcore collective’s upcoming second album, which will welcome us into the world of the ‘Loon’ when it is released in mid-April:
Axe Dragger ‘Fight Another Day’ (Ripple Music)
This second single from the upcoming self-titled debut album from this unholy communion of Fu Manchu guitarist Bob Baich and former Pentagram drummer Pete Stewart, alongside original Pantera vocalist Terry Glaze and Dark Funeral bassist Fredrik Isaksson, proves that experienced old dogs can indeed do what the title says:
Black Lung ‘Follow’ (Magnetic Eye Records)
We don’t need a second invitation to follow these Maryland heavy psych rockers ever deeper into the grooves of their upcoming fifth album, which will transport us into the ‘Forever Beyond‘ at the beginning of March:
Goth Fight Cage ‘I’m Not In Love With You’ (Self-Released)
The latest standalone offering from this truly solo project by Mark Holloway of Belfast heavyweight fuzzers Fagash McCann, as he wrote the song, played all the instruments and produced, engineered and mixed it all in his bedroom:
Jack Harlon & The Dead Crows ‘Seer’ (Magnetic Eye Records)
The third advance taster of the Australian psychedelic western rockers’ upcoming fourth album, which will seem them exploring ‘Inexorable Opposites’ on its release next month:
Masheena ‘Sara Lost Her Way’ (Ripple Music/Magic Mountain Recordings)
The Norwegian heavy doom troupe certainly haven’t lost their way as they prepare for the release of their second album, which will see them ‘Let The Spiders In’ (no thanks – DQ) at the beginning of April:
Melonball ‘Ally Or Alibi’ (Thousand Island Records/Rookie Records)
The fast-rising German punks will be advising us to ‘Take Care’ with the release, at the end of February, of their second album, of which this is the latest tasty sample:
Mines ‘The Doctrine’ (Mosaic Music)
The Mancunian prog metallers confront inherited violence, moral abandonment and the ideologies that have shaped human history from its earliest foundations to the present on this latest standalone offering:
Monsternaut ‘Approaching Doom’ (Heavy Psych Sounds)
The title track of the impending third album from the Finnish stoner trio, which is due for release at the end of the month:
Mylo Bybee ‘I Wish You Well’ (Gold Ship Records)
The second single from the upcoming new EP by the mid-western alt-rock/indie-pop guitar janglers:
Oedipus & The Mama’s Boys ‘Stretched/Kitchens’ (Self-Released)
This is not some weird tangential alternate universe reincarnation of the legendary Irish hard rock trio, but a seven-piece sonic collective from across the North Channel who blend raw post-punk energy with experimental noise rock textures on this two-part release:
Stone Blind State ‘Electric Lady’ (Self-Released)
This Irish grunge-punk duo have returned after something of a hiatus, and celebrate with the second taster of their upcoming debut album, due for release at the end of next month:
Weedpecker ‘Ash’ (Heavy Psych Sounds)
Our final hurrah sees these Polish neo-psych-otics preparing for the release, at the end of next month, of their imaginatively titled upcoming fifth album, ‘V‘, with this slice of dreamy luminecence:
