Curated by Monk
So, here we are, pummelling and pounding our way into the dark heart of another action-packed month of quality releases to bring you our latest pick of the hottest sounds that have been battering and tickling our eardrums over the past week. But, why waste inane and needless words… let’s dive straight into this week’s playlist, shall we?
84 Tigers ‘Regeneration Days’ (Spartan Records)
The Michigan post-hardcore trio open up this week’s selection with this collaboration with Seaweed’s Aaron Stauffer, the latest preview to be issued of their upcoming sophomore album, which will prove that ‘Nothing Ends’ when it comes out at the end of this week:
Bicycle Inn ‘Ordinary Hell’ (Self-Released)
The Boston emo-punks return to the Club’s playlist for the second time in as many months with this incisive critique of dead-faith culture and evangelical emptiness, but delivered with a rat-a-tat of sharp riffs:
Cheap Trick ‘The Riff That Won’t Quit’ (BMG)
I know we like to focus on the new breed, but it’s sometimes impossible to ignore the old schoolers, especially when they deliver a track that lives up to its title as a taster of their highly inappropriately titled 21st album, as they’re by no means ‘All Washed Up’…
Cold In Berlin ‘The Stranger’ (New Heavy Sounds)
The doom-laden post-punks deliver the second taster of their upcoming new album, which will seen them exposing their ‘Wounds’ at the beginning of November, with a handful of promotional dates at around the same time.
ColourMind ‘Trauma’ (Self-Released)
The Australian alt-punks come roaring back into action with a new line-up and this stonker of a new standalone single, with the promise of more to come in the not-too-distant future:
Crystal Lake ‘The Weight Of Sound’ (Century Media)
The Japanese metalcore monsters will deliver a seventh album (their first with a Western singer) that promises to live up to its title come January, and if we were any doubt that they would do just that, then they’ve just shown exactly how:
David Wilts ‘Velvet Rose’ (Self-Released)
The former Petty Cassettes frontman continues to plough his solo folk-punk furrow with his third single:
Dawn Vally ‘Graves’ (Self-Released)
The Canadian metalcore mob serve up the second taster, and title track, of their upcoming new EP, which is also the first recording to feature new vocalist Zac Emmons, formerly the guitarist with hardcore punks Pound Of Flesh:
Empty Spaces ‘Back To The Sea’ (Self-Released)
Surprisingly the only band from our home turf to feature this weekend, this alt-heavy blues/grunge groove quartet prove once again why they have been making not inconsiderable waves (sic) in our particular corner of the Überverse over the past year or so… meaning I gotta catch ‘em live sometime soon…
Glitch Kill ‘Directive 4’ (SODEH Records)
The Californian alt-metalcore monsters have waited almost five full years to bombard our senses with their second EP, but it definitely has been worth the wait to follow orders and bring this slice of bone-crushing metal to the Über masses…
Kit Major ‘Teenage Wannabe’ (Futureless Records)
The alt-rock firebrand adopts a suitably horror punk approach to this confessional critique of identity, chaos and survival in a world that thrives on manufactured personas, which features a scream cameo by her sister:
Krõna ‘The Weasel Strut’ (Merenpón Records)
This hardcore mob may hail from the Dominican Republic but they don’t exude any trace of Caribbean cool, more like unrelenting in-your-face don’t fuck with us attitude on this hard-hitting extract from their forthcoming ‘Dead Air Diairies; debut album:
Lunar & The Deception ‘No More Secrets’ (X Ray Sound)
The prog-rock mystics emerge from the ancient caverns of Wookey Hole after a five-year hiatus to blend layered singing bowls and Theremin with wiry guitar licks and reversed vocals to create this haunting and seductive, yet defiant, second taster of their upcoming debut album, which is due next March:
MEGG ‘Clarity’ (Self-Released)
The Nashville-based pop punkstress will provide us with a fearless soundtrack for tomboys, romantics, loudmouths and misfits alike when she inducts us into the ‘Low Life Club’ with the release of her fiery new EP later this month:
mirabelle. ‘Crybaby’ (Self-Released)
One of four new tracks featured on the upcoming expanded “cremation edition” of the Parisian pop punk’s debut album, ‘Welcome To My Funeral’, which was originally released this time last year, originally passing us by first time around but not on this cycle:
Obelisk ‘Working Class Zero’ (Self-Released)
The mysterious, masked one-man Scottish metalcore machine (he writes, performs and produces all the music himself) serves up the latest sample from his upcoming debut album, which will see us ‘Brushed By Darkness’ when released in December:
Rare Breed ‘Self-Destructive’ (Self-Released)
It’s been six months since we last featured this young north-eastern alt/emo/hardcore/grunge duo to our playlist, but we’re delighted to welcome them back – in the hope that they’re not actually in the mood the single title suggests:
Talk To Her ‘Dyve’ (Shyrec/Icy Cold Records)
The Italian post-punk combo examine the subjects of dependence, surrender and self-loss on one of the more intense tracks on their upcoming second album, which in turn will see them explore the impact of ‘Pain Loss Desire’ when it is released at the end of the month:
The Belair Lip Bombs ‘Back Of My Hand’ (Third Man Records)
We’ve been saving the best to last, at least in terms of band names, as these Aussie post-punk country rockers deliver us a short slap for ignoring them until this third extract from their upcoming new album landed on our deathdecks… ah well, I guess we’ll just have to listen to them ‘Again’…
So, there you have it, our latest dynamic and eclectic selection. Hopefully we’ve opened your ears to some new sounds, and pointed you in the direction of some fine tuneage to kick your new rock ‘n’ roll week off in style… Until next time, remember: keep ‘er lit, keep ‘er between the hedges and keep on Über Röckin’ in the free world \m/
