This Irish duo set out their stall with this, the project’s first new music in more than six years and the first since guitarist and band founder Mick McDonagh teamed up with singer Martin Furlong to bring their mutual love of the ancient Celtic art of storytelling through music to life:
Stone Blind State began in 2019, releasing the successful EP ‘Alive’ the same year, but line up changes and the pandemic forced the band into hiatus. It wasn’t until McDonagh, the sole remaining member, approached Furlong with a handful of songs that the band sparked back to life again. This connection spawned more than 30 songs which the pair began whittling down into a more manageable chunk, focusing on the songs that ignited something in them.
This first offering from these sessions is the universally relatable tale of falling in love across the bar with someone who appears and just as quickly is gone, lost to the night and the haze of smoke. The duo told me:
The song is about someone taking your breath away. A door opening to the most beautiful person you’ve ever seen. While the pre-chorus is about unintended consequences. Sometimes in life we go down a road we never thought we were on, until we find ourselves dealing with the consequences.
