Chosen by Monk
These Chicano SoCal punk upstarts continue to defy genres, blending hardcore beats with the traditional Colombian folk music known as cumbia and disco grooves on this first taster of their new EP, which is due later this Spring (if such a thing actually exists):
Speaking about the song, which immediately makes me wanna go out and beat the living daylights of a blue and red superhero to find out what sweet delights reside in his belly, Bardo Mendez (vocals/guitar) told ÜRHQ:
[It] is a song that takes inspiration from different places.
We love punk but we also love cumbias and disco and pop. So we tried to find a way to put these sounds together. Sonically, the song is scattered and bounces around, but i think lyrically it’s more pointed. I talk about the ongoing issue of ICE in the United States and the hypocrisy of those who support it – specifically the religious and the Latinos who have turned their backs on their own.
