Not to be outdone by a certain bunch of equally history-obsessed fellow countrymen who have an album coming out in just a couple of days’ time, these Swedish power metallers are regaling us with their own tales of bravado and derring-do, describing what happens #AsEmpiresFall with this second swashbuckling episode from their own upcoming concept work, due to be released next month:

Bloodbound’s new album, ‘Field Of Swords’, sees the band march from the Viking exploits depicted on its predecessor into the even more bloodstained  and turbulent years of the MIddle Ages. Speaking about the new single, keyboardist Frederik Bergh told us:

This song originally came from [vocalist] Patrik Selleby. He had most of the song written except for the chorus. I had a bombastic chorus in the same tempo, and when we added that, it was a great fit. Patrik sings like a god on this one and the band is firing on all cylinders. One of my favourite tracks on the album.

Guitarist Tomas Olsson added:

‘As Empires Fall’ is telling the story about how the Crusades started when the Byzantine Empire called for aid because of the growing threat in the east.

Speaking about the album as a whole, Bergh said:

[It] is a concept album, a continuation from ‘Tales From The North’, which touched upon the subject of the Viking era. On ‘Field Of Swords’, we have moved on in history and entered the Middle Ages (after 1066). The concept, in short, is the following: when the Viking Age ended in the year of our Lord 1066, came the long and grim Medieval times.

We are extremely excited about the new album. Music-wise, [it] has a slightly more modern sound, but we can guarantee it includes all the elements Bloodbound is known for! It’s a diverse record with aggressive songs, epic tracks, and it also contains some of the fastest parts we have written. And on the other hand, we have some slower, majestic songs as well, like, ‘The Nine Crusades’ where Unleash The Archers’ Brittney Slayes duets with Patrik.

‘Field Of Swords’ has everything you can ask for!
