The Michigan post-hardcore trio #Fathom the depths of personal loss on their upcoming second album, from which this is the latest extract:
‘Fathom’ started as a random riff at the end of a practice, recalls guitarist/vocalist Mike Reed.
Discordant, abrasive, and fun. It harkens back to something 90s, in the world of Handsome or Quicksand. It’s about running a marathon.
Reed also spoke about the difficult gestation of the album, the follow-up to 2022’s ‘Time In The Lighthouse’ debut, in the wake of the death of former bandmate Travis Dopp:
Songs started and stopped. I questioned if losing a creative partner took the energy out of my process.
Then one day it broke—this mantra popped into my head: “Tears in your eyes. Fist in the air”. That became a path forward.
