Artwork for Silver Flames by The Flaming SideburnsIt’s twenty years ago now since Finnish garage rockers The Flaming Sideburns released their acclaimed debut album ‘Hallelujah Rock’n’Rollah’, now considered a classic of the early 2000’s garage rock revival. Twenty years later, the original line-up of the band are back together with ‘Silver Flames’, the album they consider to be the true follow-up to ‘Hallelujah Rock’n’Rollah’.

‘Silver Flames’ is an album that packs a punch and offers a fair bit of variety too. The likes of ‘Silver Flame’, ‘Perfect Storm’ and ‘Searching Like A Hyena’ are the kind of straight ahead, high energy rockers you would expect from this band, with ‘A Song For Robert’, the current single, ‘Cast Out My Demons’ and ‘Freak Out’ being particularly catchy tracks that don’t hold back on the big riffing by any means.

‘Neverending’ veers in a more soulful direction, ‘Reverberation (Doubt)’ is an outstanding slice of wild psyche, with ‘Soulshaking’ and ‘Trance-Noche’ (which is sung in Spanish) having the kind of twisted rock’n’roll flavours the Cramps would have been proud of.

If you’re a fan of that acclaimed debut album, you won’t be disappointed with ‘Silver Flames’.

Twenty years may be a long time to wait, but the original Flaming Sideburns are most definitely back and they mean business.
