There are “rock stars” that spend all day sitting on their back sides, watching the royalties roll in and occasionally posting some inane trivia on social media channels, in order to “connect” with their “fanbase”… and then there are the dudes who get out there and do it, spending ten months of the year on the road, playing anywhere there is electricity, and the remaining time writing, recording and genuinely interacting with those who make it possible to do what they do…

 

There can be no doubt that Marco Mendoza very firmly falls into the latter category. Last year, having just come off the road with The Dead Daisies, he jumped straight back into the studio to record a bunch of songs he had in his locker for a while – plus a couple of legacy-tinted covers – before repeating the whole damn exercise with his bandmates by traversing the Atlantic once again to lay down the new TDD opus.

 

This past week, he played a handful of club dates in the Über Kingdom of Rock ‘n’ Roll – and we had the great privilege of catching up with him after the first show in Belfast for a chat about the aforementioned solo and Daisies albums, his musical influences and other juicy titbits… so, pull up a chair, crack open a six-pack (you’re gonna need it, ‘cos this baby clocks in at just shy of half an hour) and listen to what one of the most humble and charismatic men in rock ‘n’ roll had to say for himself:
