When you bring together a group of musicians that features luminaries from the alt-pop, grunge and stoner scenes, and between them have been responsible for producing possibly upwards of a hundred albums, you know it is destined to be something special… and so it has proven with Drink The Sea, a collaboration between REM guitarist Peter Buck, ex-Mad Season/Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin, QOTSA’s Alain Johannes and Mark Lanegan’s long-time collaborator Duke Garwood.
Earlier today, I caught up with Barrett Martin to talk about the coalescence of the project, the organic generation of the recently-released duo of albums and what to expect from the debut tour, which has just hit the road in Spain and rolls into the ÜK and Ireland next month:
