Slugfest will be celebrating its 3rd birthday in style this year with a whopping 26 bands appearing at 2 venues in Abertillery over 3 days.
Kicking off on Friday 23rd July at the Dolls House, six bands will be offering the first onslaught of the best local punk and metal on offer. Among the Friday night line-up are locals Death Bullet, Merthyr’s Foreign Legion and Caldicot thrashers Mutator. Saturday 24th sees the traditional all-day shenanigans at The Mount, with a barbecue, loads of vegan and veggie food, face-painting and all manner of fun, games and joviality……oh and 15 bands. Highlighting the popularity Slugfest has gained, the line-up of bands includes local favourites such as Lifer, Fell On Black Days, Bad Sam and 8.4%. Also from further afield are Bristol’s Gurkha, Rings Around Saturn and Disorder, and Coventry nutters Scutty Neighbours. On Sunday 25th, The Mount will host The Slugfest Acoustic Club with numerous floor players and bands, with Lees Amigos headlining afternoon’s proceedings. Finishing the whole weekend off The Dolls House will host five bands, including thrashers Outgunned and valleys metallers Hellbound. There is free entry to all venues for the whole weekend and all profits and proceeds from the various activities will go to The Hospice Of The Valleys.
What started out as a 40th birthday bash for two Abertillery locals, Slugfest has become something of a local institution. Last year’s event raised over £1,000 for charity and saw two great days featuring 15 bands across the two venues. This year’s event looks set to build on that success, showcasing local bands, providing a great deal of fun for all involved and raising money for good causes into the bargain.
