1.) What are your most vivid childhood memories of Halloween?

Aside living in a really cool suburban neighborhood with tons of kids on the block dressed in costumes going house to house, we used to have this fright house every year for Halloween called “Factory of Terror”. It was held at the Ventura County Fair Grounds and back then it was HUGE! The first time I went I was about 5 years old (way too young to go, lol). There were different rooms that would have different themes and they were scary as fuck!! I
mean…  the thing started with Leatherface breaking through a wall and cutting people up and then running towards you wielding his chainsaw in front of you just inches away from your face. From there it just got worse and worse and at the end there was a maze with moving walls. Did I mention I was only 5?

2.) Why do you think that the worlds of horror and metal/punk have always been so closely linked?

Because of the subject matter. It’s easy to sing about ripping people in half or a ghost that rapes people with loud and fast music.

3.) Has there been a horror remake yet that has bettered the original movie?

Sure there has. Some that come time mind are: The Thing (1982), The Ring (2002), and The Fly (1986)

4.) What’s the greatest ever horror movie kill?

Oh man… that’s a hard one to answer!! There’s SO many good ones but the one I never ever forget is the death of Pvt Torrez from 1985’s ‘Day of the Dead’. It’s absolutely brutal and the part where the zombies rip his head off while he’s screaming, it creates this high pitch noise as if his vocal chords are stretching to the max before they tear. Horrendous and brilliant!

5.) Who is the baddest ever horror movie villain…and why?

That will have to go to my all time favorite, Leatherface (the original played by Gunnar Hansen). Since I was a young kid he’s always been my favorite. He’s huge, strong, menacing, wears other people’s faces on his face, wears a butcher’s apron with blood all over, and wields a gas powered chain saw. I mean… what more do I need to say?!

6.) Who is the greatest ever Scream Queen?

Most people will say Jamie Lee Curtis, and she’s good, but I never really found her screams to be believable really. My pick goes to Marilyn Burns, specifically from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). Towards the end she’s screaming her lungs out, jumping through a window, running away, getting sliced by a maniac with a razor, and jumping into the back of pickup track peeling away from the cannibalistic family. The scene in the back of the pickup she’s crying, laughing, screaming… I’ve never seen such a stunning performance.

7.) Name your Top 5 favorite horror movies of all time…and tell us why!!

1.) The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) – It’s raw, gritty, subject matter. The use of a chain saw as a weapon. The music.

2.) Pieces (1982) – Chain saw weapon, gore, grindhouse feel, music.

3.) Dawn of the Dead (1978) – Death Scenes, Zombies in a mall setting, great cast, pacing, and the music.

4.) A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) – Definitely one of the creepiest K-Horror films I have ever seen. The first time I watched it I felt like I was 6 years old, hiding under the covers, feeling fear as if something behind was going to grab me. It made me dread things at the end of my bed and looking under the kitchen sink. It’s a beautifully shot movie as well and overall a great psychological horror film.

5.) The Evil Dead (1981) – Cinematography, Ash, death scenes, the use of stop motion, and the music.

8.) What underrated horror movie would you recommend to our readers just in case they have never seen it?

Definitely see Halloween III: Season of the Witch. This movie doesn’t deserve the flack it gets; the only reason why is because it didn’t have the famous Michael Myers in it. The concept of the movie is incredibly dark, the acting is solid and there’s some really great special effects. Also… and in my opinion has one of the best scores Carpenter and Howarth have ever done and was completely ahead of its time. Don’t go along with the hate train on this one, watch it for yourself and make your own judgment.

9.) What is your guilty pleasure, the trashy horror flick that you hold dear but everyone else runs away from?

Lol… Probably Killer Nerd (1991). I don’t know why I like this movie… It’s absolutely horrible in every way and looks like it was shot straight to VHS and the acting is sooooooooooo bad but I only know a couple of people that would actually watch it with me.

10.) What is the greatest ever horror movie poster?

Man… that one’s too hard to answer. The best I can do is pick the one of my fondest memories. It would be the original VHS artwork for 1974’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I was like 5 years old and it used to horrify me but I would just stare at the damn thing.

11.) Have you ever had a ghostly supernatural experience?

Yes… My fellow noise musician buddy has a studio in his basement. One day after blasting loud noise for like an hour we headed back upstairs to rest up. We closed the basement door behind us and sat in the kitchen (which was just across from the basement door). While sitting there the basement door just decided to open on its own. I saw the door handle turn on its own and the door opened slowly. After freaking out about what had just happened in front of me I tried making an rational explanation for it but I couldn’t. Really freaky moment in my life.
12.) What ‘star’ of the music world would you like to see slaughtered in gory horror movie style?

Aphex Twin. Don’t get me wrong… I LOVE Aphex Twin but if it were to happen it would be the weirdest/coolest/rarest thing anyone has seen.

13.) What are your plans for Halloween this year?

Setting up a haunted house. We’ve been doing it for 3 years so far in the neighborhood we moved to recently and we’ve already got a following, people coming back specifically to our house. Last year we had a butcher’s theme, really gory stuff. I wore the pig’s mask from Motel Hell and had various butcher weapons. It was awesome times, having kids run away and not taking their candy, lol.
