Worcester’s self-styled “Glam Punk Goth ‘n’ Roll Outlaws” Gypsy Pistoleros this week will unleash their most ambitious brew yet when they take us deep into their world of their ‘Dark Faerie Tales’. Building on the swagger of 2025’s ‘Church of the Pistoleros’, this 10-track epic – produced by Dave Draper (known for his work with the likes of Michael Monroe and The Wildhearts) – dives deeper into haunted punk mythology, blending sleazy riffs, gothic drama, and flamenco sparks into a feverish, genre-defying ride.
The title track ‘Dark Faerie Tales’ kicks off with Tom Morello-esque riffs and a mirror-chanting hook, exploding into 80s hair metal choruses laced with Ash-like college punk joy—pure hedonistic chaos. With echoes of Shakin’ Stevens vocals in parts, it is obvious that the band have a very tongue-in-cheek approach to their songwriting.
Standouts like ‘My One Desire, Burn It Up’ and ‘King of Almost Everything’ ramp up the sleaze-punk anthems, while ‘Take My Hand to Nightmare Land’ and ‘I’m The Prince of the Damned’ weave theatrical goth grandeur with outlaw soul.
Closer ‘The Ghost of Baby Strange’ haunts with tempo shifts echoing Dire Straits grit and Skynyrd fire, tying the neon-dream narrative together.
This quartet – made up of the now reasonably stable combo of vocalist Gypsy Lee Pistolero, Kerry Pistolero White on bass/backing vocals, Shane Pistolero Sparkz on guitar/backing vocals and drummer Chris Pistolero Hopton – pushes boundaries harder than ever, forging glam swagger, punk rebellion, and gothic myth into unhinged, larger-than-life escapism.
It’s a twisted fairytale for the broken and strange, more theatrical and tight than before, with vinyl, CD, and digital formats ready to soundtrack ÜK tour blowouts like their hometown album launch at Worcester’s Marrs Bar.
- ‘Dark Faerie Tales’ will be released on Friday (17 April).
