Just 24 hours after it was announced that he had left the band, former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan has been found guilty of assaulting his former fiancee.

As reported here on Über Rock, Kasabian issued a statement yesterday (Monday 6 July), saying that 39-year old Meighan was “stepping down from the band by mutual consent”. The statement had gone on to say that “Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track”.

Subsequently, this morning (Tuesday 7 July), at Leicester Magistrates’ Court, Meighan pleaded guilty to a assaulting his then fiancée, Vikki Ager, at their home on 9 April this year. According to reports on the BBC and other media outlets, Meighan initially denied the assault, but later admitted to it after being shown CCTV footage of the incident.

The singer was given an 18-month community order and ordered to undertake 200 hours of community service, as well as five days of rehabilitation.
