The Über Rock Singles Club Daily Pick – Astralnaut
For the second successive day, we are on our home turf as our latest selection comes from renascent Norn Iron stoned doomsters/doomed stoners Astralnaut, who are taking us to the ‘Tipping Point’ with the latest taster from their imminent self-titled debut album, which has been an epic 15 years in the making and is definitely well worth the wait… Thankfully, Ben Shepherd is nowhere in sight as the Armagh antagonists lay down some seriously heavy riffage guaranteed to take us over the edge:

Today’s choice was a complete and utter no-brainer. It’s the absolutely titanic (sic) new offering from the equally huge sounding The Boat Sank. The band’s name is a reference to their native Belfast’s most (in)famous and notorious – and, it has to be said, crassly exploited – export and its fate. Yes, there was a boat, and it sank… as the band say on their rather cool line of merch: “get the fuck over it”.

Good morning pop pickers (well, it is morning somewhere in the Überverse), and let us start your day off with my latest choice cut, which sees our good friend Willie Dowling, a regular visitor to both these pages in general and the Singles Club in particular (that’s his private booth, the third one on the left, over there), who is confessing to killing his imaginary friend on his own latest selection from his forthcoming solo album.

My latest hot off the presses (sic) choice comes from a collaborative project between Irish indie veterans Big Generator and post-punk gothic artist pMad, who are addressing some of the things we don’t #Need in this fucked up Überverse – such as war, hate, distrust, propaganda, bullying and all the horrible attributes of life – with this debut release:

It takes a lot for a cover version to make it onto the playlist here at ÜRHQ, but this one absolutely knocks it out of the park, as the Doncaster-born emo superstar-in-the-making takes this classic KISS song and gives it a totally unique treatment, which importantly retains elements of the original, especially in its middle section, but surrounds it with a darker, grittier interpretation which really helps to reinvent the song for the modern era:

Monk’s latest selection comes from a band to whom he was drawn by their name, as these Liverpool DIY punks keep us occupied until that time when the feeling turns cold with the lead cut from their forthcoming second album.
Read MoreThe Über Rock Singles Club Daily Pick – Eivør
Monk’s latest selection is something ever so slightly left-of-centre as it could be seen as more of an electro-pop offering than a rock tune, but it pushes the sort of experimental boundaries that the boss has grown to explore more and more in recent times. It comes from Faroese singer.composer/songwriter Eivør, who combines her background in traditional Nordic folk, jazz and prog rock with her new found passion for dark gothic-infused electronica with this, the latest single to be extracted from her forthcoming new album.

My latest selection is the latest solo offering from the frontman best known for his work with outfits such as The Role Models, The Loyalties and most recently, The Digressions. Yes, Rich Ragany is delivering us ‘A Pleasant Fiction’ with the first cut from his forthcoming album. The lead track features a very special guest in guitarist Ken Mochikoshi-Horne of Los Angeles punk legends The Bronx.

Monk’s latest pick of the pops sees us back on home turf, as Belfast hard hitters Maverick regale us with the tale of ‘Bloody Mary’ on the latest tasty appetizer for their upcoming fifth studio album.

Monk’s latest choice sees Manchester songstress Amy Katt melding a smorgasbord of influences – heavy metal, emo, rock and dance – to produce a powerful and provocative – and, indeed, declarative – second single.

Monk’s latest hot choice – so hot it’s not officially released until tomorrow – comes from a band with whose name, also the title of this, their second single, he can readily identify, especially after ten night shifts in a row!
