What would you get if you amalgamated the barroom stomp of Bon Scott era AC/DC up with the arena pageantry of Brian Johnson era AC/DC and then added in a very large dollop of blues rock charm courtesy of the eternal UK rock underdogs Thunder?
Well not only would you be get a full throttle kick ass Rock ‘N’ Roll band that most classic rocks fans around the globe would give their left knacker to hear…but you would also near as damn it complete my Top Trumps Fantasy band. If only these dreams came true eh? … Well maybe they can…Enter Malmo Rock ‘N’ Roll muthafuckers Bonafide, ready to set your world on fire.
‘Something’s Dripping’ is the album number two from former Jason And The Scorchers drummer Pontus Snibb and his newish baby Bonafide that sees him seamlessly transform from skin basher to Jack Daniels swigging front man with ease and much aplomb.
Kicking things well into gear right from the off ‘Dirt Bound’, ‘No Doubt About It’ and ‘Sicker Than You Think’ are all AC/DC enthused stomping hard rock anthems, and just like Airbourne’s ‘Running Wild’ and Young Heart Attack’s ‘Young And Crazy’ they prove that the new guns can produce a fantastic edge to the classic blues rock sound that the Young brothers could only really dream about in the late eighties, early nineties when creatively, well let’s just say they were a tad lacking eh!
If you dig deeper into the Bonafide sound though, you suddenly realise that their brand of rock heritage has a much wider scope than their antipodean counterparts.
‘Elvis Chapel Blues’ being a storming blues rock number that emulates the swagger of ‘Lovehunter’ era Whitesnake with ease, whilst also managing to recall a certain Ron Young and Little Caesar just for good luck.
‘A Shot Of You’ opens with a Rod Stewart and the Faces inspired twelve bar strut that gets the drinks in before exiting without paying in a full-blown blues-rock extravaganza.
Look, do yourself a favour right now; crack open a cold beer, plug in the air guitar and rock out with ‘Dog’, ‘Straight Shooter’ (which incidentally features the dulcet tones of Crucified Barbara’s Mia Coldheart) and the gung ho chorus of ‘Hard Livin Man’ like your life depended on it.
To wrap this review up, it would be easy to do the clichéd routine and make a play on of the band’s moniker but I’m not that predictable…oh fuck it, yes I am…
‘Something’s Dripping’ is a Bonafide fist pumping, ass kicking, jaw-dropping monster of an album and, in the words of the band themselves, crank up the stereo and ‘Fill Your Head WithRock’…..NOW !!!!!
