Building on his performance with Wolfsbane at Steelhouse Festival in July, the artist was met with a positive response from the local audience. The current ensemble, which includes Chris and Luke Appleton, provided an accomplished and energetic presentation, highlighting Bayley’s consistent vocal abilities and commanding stage presence across both the album’s dynamic highlights and more reflective moments.

The event was organized into two acts, beginning with the ‘Silicon Messiah’ set, which served both as a retrospective nod and an affirmation of Bayley’s ongoing significance as a songwriter and performer. Notable pieces such as ‘Stare At The Sun’ and ‘Born As A Stranger’ were particularly well-received, with the audience engaging enthusiastically throughout.

In the second act, Bayley and his band demonstrated assured musicianship as they performed a blend of Iron Maiden and Bayley’s own repertoire. The second half commenced with ‘Samurai’ and ‘The Man Who Would Not Die,’ setting an assertive tone that was later moderated by two acoustic pieces, ‘2am’ and ‘Soundtrack of My Life,’ both of which were positively received by the audience.

‘The Unbeliever’ and ‘Blood on the World’s Hands’ resonated with contemporary global developments. The performances of ‘Virus’ and ‘Wrathchild’ notably engaged the crowd, who participated actively in the choruses, creating a sense of collective involvement. The event featured no elaborate theatrics or embellishments—only genuine metal music presented with conviction, and an artist consistently attentive to the audience throughout the performance.

As the evening concluded with the widely appreciated ‘Doctor, Doctor,’ it was evident that Bayley’s connection with his audience has remained strong over time. The performance effectively conveyed both Bayley’s appreciation and his fans’ continued support, underscoring the event’s significance within the South Wales metal community. Even after decades in the industry, Blaze Bayley demonstrated his enduring presence and professionalism on stage at The Patriot, exemplifying why he continues to garner respect from multiple generations.

If you haven’t listened to ‘Silicon Messiah’ for a number of years I would suggest you do, as it is very pertinent  (and even a bit prophetic given its age) to today’s social events.
