Artwork for Exposed by BastetteThe Uber Rock Approved stampPardon the pun, but this is my first exposure to Bastette.  With a combination of bad ass female attitude, fantasy and a smidge of reality, the lyrics and musicality are impressive.

The vocal range of Caroline Kenyon runs from sultry low guttural vocals to high crying levels that put you through the emotional wringer if you listen carefully.

However, whilst the lyrics and vocals sit on top of the instrumentation to make them stand out, the rhythm section is strong yet subtly blended into the mix.  The lead and rhythm guitar give the power and sound that carries the vocals along well.

I can imagine this being an excellent live sound (will let you know more after November in Cardiff).

Its an unusual combination but it really works.  Kenyon admits to element of fantasy and reality in the lyrics and emotions expressed but then all good work comes from those places as it connects with different people in many ways. I’m sure this will resonate with many

From the opening ethereal guitar opening on ‘Stand Back’ through to the single release ‘Sick and Twisted’, there is something that will grab anyone who listens by the ears and say “listen to me… or else”.

I like it as a different sound from the things I usually listen to, and I will be checking out their other stuff on Spotify too.  Will I buy it if I see them live? Definitely. With a promotional tour hopefully happening, I suggest you get along to see them: I will be…
